When ISIS came to Iraq a few years ago, families ran from the war zones. They lost their houses and everything they owned.

Most of the refugees are from Mosul, Tikrit, Diyala and Ramadi. Most of them are Arabs and Turkmen. I personally helped the displaced families of Tal Afar and Mosul.

We had a government that wasn’t doing anything for us so we started to collect clothing from the people of the city and distributed them to the refugees.

A few months later, we started our free haircut project, then, we opened a school for the children. All the teachers are my friends, all of them are volunteers like me.

We struggled a lot to do this because we lacked the appropriate financial support.

Now, there are many groups of volunteers working with refugees in the city. We still have the free haircuts project and distribute food and medicine.

As a young man and youth activist, it’s my responsibility to help my city & country in hard situations in need.

Hopefully, things will get better. In the meantime, we are here, on the ground, doing what we can.
