Clandestine Attitudes by Rima, Tunisia – photo essay –

This is a series of pictures taken from different hidden parts of an Arab girl’s diary. Most women I have known in my country are having two or even three parallel lives so that they can satisfy their family and the society’s expectation and then a “clandestino” life where a woman can think about herself and do what makes her happy without offending our macho society, just out of their sight… I was always wondering how a woman living in an Arab world full of taboos can think about being productive and distinguished in society. Especially when the society itself is still stuck in trivial and personal issues like sex before marriage or how smoking cigarettes is only for ‘bad women’.
