The history of Nabeul City, by Wassim Najjar – Tunisa [Photo Essay]

I have chosen to show you the most famous and symbolic monuments of my city. These pictures represent our past, the roots of Nabeul. The gate arc which was the door of the city, the pottery jar with the gigantic tree planted in it, and the giant orange plate. For us,these monuments were there from the beginning of time and will stand there long after we’re gone. They remind us of who we are, how our great-grandparents have built this city and have built an economy based on agriculture(orange and lime) and pottery. That’s how it all started. Seeing these monuments is really what makes me feel I’m home, where I belong.

This is just one example of the important work produced YaLa’s citizen journalists, a program funded by the European Union’s Peacebuilding Initiative in order to enable young leaders from across the Middle East and North Africa to document and share their experiences of the region.
